3 steps to safely disable an electric or hybrid vehicle
In this short video we cover some helpful steps on how to safely disable an electric or hybrid vehicle.
Step 1
When working on high voltage componentry it is important to disable the electric vehicle first. This consists of disconnecting the 12 volt or auxiliary power. When you do this you will stop any such systems from turning on, that will in turn activate relays or any high voltage componentry.
Step 2
Once we have done this, it is then important to move on and pull out the service plug or kill switch. This will disable or isolate the electric vehicle battery from the rest of the car.
Step 3
Now that you have completed these first two steps it is important to wait at least 10 minutes because some high voltage components have capacitors in them and it takes a while for the energy to dissipate, even when the system is disabled.
It is critical to note that you are still dealing with a high voltage system so please take care in your work and ensure that you remain as safe as possible when doing so.
