Repurposing bus batteries for energy storage
Buses have some of the highest adoption rates of all electric vehicles. But what happens to the batteries as they reach end of life?
Electric bus batteries typically come with an 8 year warranty. But the average bus on Australian roads is about 11 years old. So odds are that a bus chassis will cycle through at least 2 sets of traction batteries. That's the challenge.
The good news? The batteries that are no longer suitable for powering the bus, still have 70-80% remaining capacity. This makes them ideal for stationary energy storage systems. Infinitev are focused on giving used EV batteries a second life.
